Margarita Island has only one operating golf course located at the resort hotel, Hesperia Isla Margarita near the town of Pedro Gonzalez on the north west coast. Another course was planned near Porlamar however it remains unfinished after some years with no completion date in sight.
It is an eighteen hole public course, par 70, with anyone welcome to play. There are no tee times - it is run on a walk on system - first come - first to start. This is not usually a problem except in very busy national holiday times like Christmas, Carnaval, Easter & August. During the low season months of April, May, June, October & November you will have the course to yourself.
The course has just recently
finished installing a new irrigation system
however we are always totally dependent on some rain to make the course lush.
Margarita Island is a desert island
with little rain so this new system should
go a long way to keeping the fairway and greens playable.
Greens fees run from a low of US$40
to US$80 per round depending on the season.
You can reduce this cost by paying in Bolivars at the official rate.
Caddies, pull carts, electric carts and rental clubs are available.
Be sure to wear lots of sun protection while playing. The sun can be very strong and after 4 hour round you will want to prevent any sunburn. Also take lots of water with you. There are drinking water points on the course however my experience is that bottled water is better.
